Visitor statistics
To see which articles are read, our own small counter on this server records each page view with: the time, the page, the website you came from (domain only, e.g. linkedin.com), a campaign tag if the link contains one, the device type (desktop, mobile, tablet), the browser and operating system family (e.g. Safari, iOS), the browser language (e.g. "de") and the country. The country is looked up from your IP address at the moment of the visit using the free IP Geolocation by DB-IP list (CC BY 4.0), which is stored on this server; no external service is contacted, and only the country code is kept. To count visitors per day, it also stores a short code calculated from your IP address, your browser and a random value that changes every day and is deleted the next day. After that, the code can no longer be linked to anyone. Your IP address itself is not stored, nothing is stored on your device, and the data is not shared with anyone. Legal basis: our legitimate interest in understanding which content is useful (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). The page view records are deleted after 25 months.
Hosting
The website is hosted by easyname GmbH, Vienna, Austria, on servers in the EU. To deliver the pages, the web server technically has to process your IP address and the requested address; we do not store access logs.
